Accelerating Analytics Adoption Through a Co-Created Vision & Strategy
Startup organizations may not always begin their projects establishing a sustainable initial information system, becoming a problem to introduce analytics and scale it effectively. However, there is a potential opportunity to accelerating analytics through a data-driven vision and strategy. For instance, the case study, Open-Source Analytical Platforms for Startups, developed by Maria Helena Rivero as her graduate thesis of Information Systems Engineering and Management (ISEM) at Harrisburg University of Science and Technology, explored the possibility of startups to introduce analytics into their current practice. This study recognized the dynamic of open-source programming software companies and their co-creation mission for introducing analytics into the initial phase of startup. A dashboard prototype displaying Key Performance Indicators (KPIs) built using RStudio, and the Shiny package, tested the leadership team’s interaction using an analytical platform. The study’s findings illustrated organizational dynamics that impede the complete accelerated transition of analytics from early stages. Although they are interested in integrating open-source software for analytics, the leadership team does not realize the immediate possibility of analytics and future scaling of information knowledge. Other findings highlight planning effective data engineering, facilitating training human capital management in analytics, AI, Big Data, and Machine Learning to allow an effective workflow of information knowledge. Finally, ten data-driven tasks will be suggested to accelerate analytics through a data-driven vision and strategy (co-creation, training & facilitation skills, data culture adoption, research, cross-functional relationships, usability goals, automation of workflows, employee-powered think tanks, information knowledge architecture, and reinforcement of leadership). These data-driven tasks can support and inspire a channel to introduce analytics and constitute a well-rounded data-driven strategic vision in startups. Although this case study directs to the entrepreneurship field, any organization should adopt analytics with an entrepreneurial mindset inspiring their teams to work in our data-driven world.
