Early Warning Alert System Implementation for an In-Vitro Biological Species Propagation Unit in Medellin, Colombia, to Reduce Human Occupancy During the Covid-19 Pandemic
During the Covid-19 contingency, to reduce the human occupancy in the biological species propagation location in Medellín Colombia called Natura InVitro from Universidad EAFIT was needed. Orchids and other very difficult to propagate natural species need very controlled conditions in an adequate plant growth room area. The temperature and humidity in these places must be regulated meticulously. Any change in these variables must be recorded and notify the technical operator to take actions, such as air condition repair or energy supply-related problems. Before the pandemic, this place was daily visited by the worker, but with the new occupancy regulations, any new technology that prevented people from staying there is highly appreciated. While initially designed for deployment aboard rockets or weather balloons, the CanSat inspired design deployed to solve this new problem results in a rugged, modular, robust, non-invasive measuring devices, highly efficient in their communication approaches and energy use. These attributes make them ideal for deployment as remote measuring stations, which for this application case, was easy to deploy and start pumping data into the gateway and the cloud service. An early warning microservice was configured to send SMS autonomously, Gmail or WhatsApp messages to the responsible people, and nowadays, we have been helping this company to reduce the human occupancy and keep alert about their productive processes
