Christopher A. Peters, MD | Medical Director, Northeast Radiation Oncology Centers
Practicing Palliative Care
Dr. Christopher Peters serves as medical director of Northeast Radiation Oncology Centers (NROC) and is Clinical Associate Professor of Medicine at The Geisinger Commonwealth School of Medicine (GCSOM). He previously served on the Pennsylvania DOH Prostate Cancer Task Force in 2016, as well as the Pennsylvania Palliative Care in Oncology Task force. He is the director of clinical research at NROC and serves as the Principal Investigator for NROC’s full member status in the Radiation Therapy Oncology Group. In 2012, Dr. Peters joined the board of directors of the Northeast Regional Cancer Institute (NRCI); he chaired the Board in 2017 and 2018. Dr. Peters is board certified in Radiation Oncology. He has numerous scientific publications and maintains a busy clinical practice caring for oncology patients. He serves as physician co-chair for the Healthcare Division of the United Way of Lackawanna and Wayne Counties Annual Campaign Cabinet 2012-present.

Survivorship Care—Individualized Needs Assessment to Inform Surveillance and Recovery Strategies
Dr. Randall A. Oyer is a practicing medical oncologist at the Ann B. Barshinger Cancer Institute at Penn Medicine Lancaster General. Dr. Oyer serves as the Medical Director of the Cancer Institute, Medical Director of Oncology, Chairman of Cancer Committee, Chair of the Oncology Physicians Advisory Council, and Medical Director of the Cancer Risk Evaluation (Cancer Genetics) Program at Penn Medicine Lancaster General. Dr. Oyer is a member of the Cancer Service Line Executive Committee and the Cancer Service Line Quality Committee at the Abramson Cancer Center- University of Pennsylvania, Philadelphia. Dr. Oyer is also a member of the Board of Directors, and Treasurer, of the Association of Community Cancer Centers, Rockville, Maryland. Dr. Oyer is an ex-officio Commissioner of the American College of Surgeons Commission on Cancer, representing the Association of Community Cancer Centers.
Kathy J. Selvaggi MS, MD, FAAHPM | Palliative Care Director, Butler Health System
Integrating Palliative Care with Community Oncology
Dr. Kathy Selvaggi the Director of the Palliative Care Program for the Butler Health System in Butler, PA. After completion of her palliative care fellowship at Dana-Farber Cancer Institute in Boston, she developed the Division of Palliative Care for the West Penn/Allegheny Health System and returned to Boston to direct the Intensive Palliative Care Unit at Brigham and Woman’s Hospital/ Dana-Farber Cancer Institute. Her current interest is program development of high quality palliative care for patients in rural/community settings. Dr. Selvaggi is board-certified in Internal Medicine and Palliative Care and is a fellow of the American Association of Hospice and Palliative Medicine.

Keep on Moving—The Importance of Exercise in Prevention and Reduction of Recurrence of Breast Cancer
Dr. Sharon Cowden is a pediatric physician and breast cancer survivor. She is a graduate of the University of Pittsburgh School of Medicine. In 2008, she co-founded “Strength & Courage: Exercises for Breast Cancer Survivors”, a non-profit program to help survivors regain upper body flexibility and strength and incorporate regular aerobic activity into their lifestyle. The program was developed in cooperation with specialists at the University of Pittsburgh and the University of Pennsylvania Medical Centers and has been distributed in 36 countries.
