Brian Stonesifer, Director of Client Solutions, Acclaim Systems

Serverless architectures enable businesses to increase agility and innovation by shifting operational responsibilities to cloud providers. Starting with an introduction to Amazon Web Services (AWS) and cloud computing, the session will walk through a hypothetical use case to build a backend solution for a mobile social networking app by searching records using Geo Queries (ex: bounding box and geo distance searches). The process for creating a serverless architecture will be demonstrated by a hands-on activity creating an AWS DynamoDB, AWS Lambda function (using Python), CloudWatch and loading streaming data into Amazon ElasticSearch. Attendees will be able to perform hands-on testing of the ElasticSearch Geo Queries using PostMan. Attendees will learn how serverless architectures and cloud computing can benefit GIS application development.
