Agile Scrum 101 – Introduction to Agile Scrum

This 1-day course provided by Harrisburg University introduces Agile Methods and the Scrum Framework.This fun and interactive course (which is a part of our graduate program course for those obtaining their M.S. in Project Management) will cover the following topics:

Who Should Attend the Agile Scrum 101 Course?

This is for participants that are new to Agile world but want a good overview of it to decide how to begin and leverage agile principles in their teams and projects.  This course is not specifically geared to obtaining a certification.

 

Professional Scrum Master (PSM)

This 2-day course covers the principles and (empirical) process theory underpinning the mechanics, rules and roles of the Scrum framework. Advanced tools for servant-leadership are provided to increase a Scrum Master’s effectiveness. These tools relate to behavioral shifts, working with people and teams, coaching and facilitation techniques, and addressing the organization. Like all Scrum.org courses, students learn through instruction and team-based exercises.

Who Should Attend the Professional Scrum Master (PSM) Course?

The Professional Scrum Master course is for anyone involved in software development using the Scrum Framework. It is particularly beneficial for those people within an organization accountable for getting the most out of Scrum, including:

Prerequisites: Attendees make the most of the class if they:

  • Have studied the Scrum Guide (required)
  • Have passed the Scrum Open Assessment
  • Have been on or are closely involved in building or enhancing a software product or application

Overview: The PSM course is much more than just a set of slides and an instructor. In this course, students work on real-life cases with other classmates together as a team. This course is made up of discussions and hands-on exercises based upon real-life cases. Advanced tools for servant-leadership are provided to increase a Scrum Master’s effectiveness. These tools relate to behavioral shifts, working with people and teams, coaching and facilitation techniques, and addressing the organization.Students learn through instruction and team-based exercises and are challenged to think in terms of the Scrum principles to better understand what to do when returning to the workplace.

Course Objectives: Students are challenged to think with-in the Scrum Framework and the underlying values and principles to better understand what to do when returning to the workplace and facing complex decisions.Theoretical and experiential training to provide:

  • The “WHY” and rules of Scrum through the empirical foundation of Scrum
  • The ability to effectively start up Scrum or increase its effectiveness if already underway
  • The ability to navigate the “grey areas” of a Scrum implementation

Assessment and Certification: All participants completing the Professional Scrum Master course will receive a password to attempt the Professional Scrum Master level I assessment and are also entitled to a discount on the PSM II assessment. The PSM certifications are difficult which has made them industry-recognized as a true test of Scrum competence.

Professional Scrum Product Owner (PSPO)

This 2-day course covers how to maximize the value of software products and systems. Product Ownership in Scrum today requires more than knowledge of how to write requirements or manage a Product Backlog. Professional Scrum Product Owners need to have a concrete understanding of everything that drives value from their products. Like all scrum.org courses, students develop and solidify this understanding through instruction and team-based exercises.

Who Should Attend the Professional Scrum Product Owner (PSPO) Course?

The Professional Scrum Product Owner is THE cutting-edge course for Product Owners, Agile product managers and anyone responsible for a software product’s success in turbulent markets. The course is targeted to Product Owners and anyone else accountable for maximizing the value delivered by software products and services. Scrum Masters benefit from this course as their role often includes coaching Product Owners.

Requirements prioritization and estimation will be thoroughly examined through a series of exercises and advanced topics, such as tracking, metrics, and how to negotiate the needs of multiple stakeholders will be covered in the course. Common pitfalls and techniques to avoid those pitfalls will be thoroughly explored with multiple hands on exercises.

These industry-recognized certifications require a minimum passing score on the associated rigorous assessment.
