About Speaker
With over 26 years of experience working for the commonwealth, Dorty Theis has served as the Department of Revenue’s Director of Transformation since September 2018, which is a dual reporting role that also reports to the Governor’s Office of Performance through Excellence. Since serving in this role, Dorty, together with the support of department leadership, has encouraged nearly 100% of their 1,500+ complement to complete Lean training and has provided guidance and support for frontline team members in the completion of over 225 process improvements in over 20 offices and bureaus throughout the agency. These improvements range from the straightforward 5S of a physical space to the complex improvement that realized over $268,000 in annual savings and earned the department a 2018 Governor’s Award for Excellence. Shortly after completing a commonwealth sponsored internship in high school, Dorty began working for the Department of Revenue as a clerk typist. Over the next 10 plus years she held various positions at Revenue each with increased responsibility before leaving to take a position at the PA Gaming Control Board where she remained for nine years before returning to Revenue in 2016 to work as executive assistant to the Secretary of Revenue. Dorty has completed the commonwealth’s Advanced Lean Green Belt training and Lean Six Sigma Green Belt training and is currently working with a team to implement a performance management system at multiple levels within the department. Dorty resides in Harrisburg with her husband, daughter, and menagerie of three and four-legged furry critters and she serves on the board of her local Lions Club. During her time away from work, Dorty enjoys personal development and spending time with family and friends in the finger lakes region of New York.
