All Models Are Broken, But Some Are Useful!

We are trained in theoretical models: Waterfall, Scrum, Kanban, etc. These models work perfectly in perfect organizations. Unfortunately, none of our organizations are perfect, they are made up of complex people, varied cultures, legacy systems, and steeped in deeply held values and beliefs. This makes incorporating any new project management model difficult and nearly impossible. We know we need to tailor our models, but besides a chapter here and a chapter there, we are never truly trained to tailor. We are trained to carry out our processes. Design Thinking’s focus on usability, empathy, and co-design makes it ideal to help us reimagine our methodologies–and to create ways of working–that work!
